Aleksandr Litvinenko Dies
As some of you may know, Litvinenko was a former KGB colonel who was allegedly poisoned by Russian counterparts in London. Yesterday, he succumbed to the poison (which caused all of his hair to fall out) and died. I find this really saddening. A man who vocally opposes a regime (Vladimir Putin) is killed– just like Anna Politkovskaya.
It was found that he was poisoned with Polonium 210– a radioactive agent that is complicated to produce and require advanced technology. This is the first time any such case of using a radioactive material to poison someone has been seen. Traces of Polonium 210 could be found in Litvinenko’s home and restaurant he ate at. Poisoning seems to be the weapon of choice, since it was used to on Viktor Yuschenko (leaving his face disfigured).
It just goes to show that Russia will never be a democracy under thugs/Putin.
