What the hell?

30 December 2006 by Mushroom Queen

Lmao, okay.. I know I’m about to seem morbid and fucked up for writing this, but watch this advert for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP-U9VrOcbI

Okay, note the part where Jennifer Aniston says:”Gina kept getting headaches”.

and the girl sitting next to her goes, “I’d hit my head on a trampoline”.

and she replies, “But it wasn’t a trampoline. It was a brain tumour”.

Ummm, what? I’m sorry this girl has cancer and all, but wtf is going on here? This advert makes no sense at all. Am I honestly missing something here? I just..feel the urge to laugh when she says “I’d hit my head on a trampoline!” This is just poorly-written and confusing. What does having cancer have to do with hitting your head on a trampoline. Honestly now.

It’s my birthday today, give me a break.

GOD.

29 December 2006 by Mushroom Queen

What’s wrong with you people? Doesn’t ANYONE have a sig that breaks the size limits? I’m feeling rather lonely right now and every time I check to see if a sig is past 300×600, it turns out to just barely make the mark. You’re all playing tricks on me, aren’t you?

Well *huff* fine.

I made that.

I wanted to make a post.

I’ll elaborate when I feel coherent. One day.

Tiki Bar TV

05 December 2006 by Mushroom Queen

It’s probably not your type of humour, but I love Tiki Bar TV. The episodes are a quirky mix of silly humour and drink-mixing lessons. My favourite episodes are:

Red Oktober*

Red Handed*

Son of the Internet

Drinkbot

*Watch sequentially (from the top downward)

In other news, I’ve been doing final exams. I have some next weeks too. Very annoying since I want them to just be over with. I’m looking for another blog layout too. This one is really inefficient in terms of navigation. Hm. Oh well.

“It’s supposed to look like that”

03 December 2006 by Mushroom Queen

I hate seeing people say that when you give con/crit to their art. It’s the most utterly retarded thing to say. If someone says something like, “This part of your photomanip looks a little pixel-y and low quality” to me, I’m going to say “Thank you, I hadn’t noticed that”. I’m NOT going to try to make up an excuse and say “It was meant to be like that because [bullshit excuse]”. Accept criticism on your work or don’t post anything. If you DID intentionally do what’s being criticised..maybe you should realise that it’s a crappy looking effect.

GOD I’m in a bad mood and I don’t know why. :\

Cookies, anyone?

01 December 2006 by Mushroom Queen

I just got done making cookies at 11 at night. Mmm, it’s a nice smell.

I’ve just got through the worst day ever and I need my damn comfort food. I had to do hours worth of geology coursework plus a book report on a book I never read. Thank god I can read quickly, eh?

Hmm, this entry hasn’t a point. OH. I watched Shaun of the Dead with Creepy today. Hilarious. I definitely recommend watching if you enjoy zombie films.  There. This entry has a point.

Do We Only Complain When we Have Support?

28 November 2006 by Mushroom Queen

If I were to tell someone a problem and say, “I can’t stand what’s going on at X”. And if I were told that I’m just overreacting or wrong..would that stop me? It’d have to depend on who you were and what you truly wanted. If you wanted power, acknowledgment, or just attention..then your intentions are wrong, no matter what you mask them with. If we want to make a public scene about something, do we only do it when we know that 2-3 people can back us up? Are there even real problems when we complain?

The difference between complaints and problems is the argument and solution. If you complain without either an argument or a solution, then what you say is basically without merit. Arguments don’t consist of “I’ve talked to people who feel the same way as I do” and they certainly don’t rely on what you perceive a person to be. No matter how right you believe yourself to be, you don’t know everything you claim to know.
There is one sure way to address a problem. Through understanding, acknowledgment of both sides, and suggestions for a logical solution. It’s not as popular a way to go about things, but it’s more honourable and it’s certainly more mature. If you’re going to blindly point fingers, there are ten pointing right back at you.

The Anatomy of Fansite Communities

27 November 2006 by Mushroom Queen

Lots of people have left. Things “aren’t the way they used to be”. I don’t see it as a bad thing and I don’t see it as a decline. But if feels like nothing is really going anywhere. I guess that over time, we all grow sick of the games we play but we’re normally closer to the people we meet. I know I am. Is there a point to this post? Well, maybe.

You see, you play a game (i.e. Runescape) because you get foolishly attached (note how I didn’t say “addicted) to it and you like meeting other people who are the same way. Then, after some time.. the game is less and less thrilling. It happens to everyone. So then you stick around because you like the people there. Then the people you like leave. Then you leave.

That’s the anatomy of how fansite communities exist. It is, thankfully, an ongoing process preventing things from dying altogether. But it doesn’t make it any less sad. It does make me wonder when I’ll feel that it’s my time to go. For now, I hope never.

Aleksandr Litvinenko Dies

24 November 2006 by Mushroom Queen

As some of you may know, Litvinenko was a former KGB colonel who was allegedly poisoned by Russian counterparts in London. Yesterday, he succumbed to the poison (which caused all of his hair to fall out) and died. I find this really saddening. A man who vocally opposes a regime (Vladimir Putin) is killed– just like Anna Politkovskaya.

It was found that he was poisoned with Polonium 210– a radioactive agent that is complicated to produce and require advanced technology. This is the first time any such case of using a radioactive material to poison someone has been seen. Traces of Polonium 210 could be found in Litvinenko’s home and restaurant he ate at. Poisoning seems to be the weapon of choice, since it was used to on Viktor Yuschenko (leaving his face disfigured).

It just goes to show that Russia will never be a democracy under thugs/Putin.

Category for Movies

22 November 2006 by Mushroom Queen

Hrm, I wish I had a way to make a category of all the movies I’ve seen so far along with my ratings and review. I’m sure it’s been done before, but I barely know anything about modding this blog. The only significant thing I’ve done to it was add and “About Me” page which took me A LONG TIME TO DO. But I felt proud. :D Anyway, since I watch about 5 movies per week..I’d be great to do. If anyone has ANY idea how to do it, let me know.

I just got done watching Kukushka. It’s a Russian film that takes place in Finland. It’s about a Finnish soldier who is chained to a rock by his comrades (he was considered too much of a weakling and pacifist) and is left with a few supplies to live for a week or so. When he manages to break free, he meets a Lapp woman who lives alone. When he arrives to her house, he sees that she is taking care of a wounded Russian soldier. Since all three of the main characters in this film speak a language that the other cannot understand (Finnish, Lapp, and Russian), there’s a lot of confusion and misunderstanding which leads to a lot of serious (sometimes funny) events. I’d recommend it. It’s subtitled in English since three languages are being actively spoken and I think it’s worth watching. KIND OF WARMS YOUR HEART, YOU KNOW?
